Beach Sports and Activities

Beach Sports and Activities Beach hotels provide facilities for a host of sea sports such as sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, parasailing, canoeing and speedboat rides. All of which, depending on your children's ages can be enjoyed. Don't forget to take photos of the older ones when they go parasailing over the ocean in front of your resort.

Butterfly Farm

This tropical live butterfly exhibition houses over 4,000 tropical butterflies of over 100 different species. This is one insect even Mum won't mind getting close to.

Penang Bird Park

Your children will love the Penang Bird Park which occupies a generous landscaped site in Seberang Jaya. Within its beautifully designed aviaries are over four hundred species of birds from all over the world. Man-made islands, waterfalls, gardens, and ornamental plants abound.

Horse Riding

There are a number of establishments catering to this sport and a number of hotels include it on their list of activities. For more information ask the hotel's concierge or at the reception counter. This is one sport the whole family can enjoy. If anyone is a little wary of being in the saddle ask the stable hand to put you or the children on a lead rein and be led around (if necessary till confidence is built up) then get out and enjoy yourself. This is a good way to discover some of the fauna and flora in the area too.


Jungle Trekking

Most beach hotels organize early morning treks past jungle streams and waterfalls. Check with your hotel for time and prices. For the more adventurous wishing to venture out on their own, the Malaysian Nature Society’s ‘The Nature Trails of Penang’ provides a comprehensive guide on trekking in Penang. This is a truly wonderful experience to be shared with everyone in your family...discover new species or just list the animals, birds or plants you can identify as you go. You can always compete amongst yourselves as to who saw the  most at the end of your amblings

   

Penang Hill
   
Rising 831m above sea level, Penang Hill is accessible by funicular railway which most children enjoy. Visitors can enjoy the panoramic view of the city and coastal area. There is a four-hour walk up the hill as well but it's not for the light hearted and you must remember to take something to drink as the climb can be a hot one.

   
Sailing

is another activity the entire family can enjoy no matter how young your brood. Small dinghies or catamarans can be rented from most seaside hotels and resorts in Penang and if your crew is very young ensure they wear a life jacket at all times while on the boat, not just when the going gets a little rough. Remember even the fastest sailing boats rarely travel faster than you can run, so the going is slow and the feeling, a relaxing one.
